Under The Knife
My knee surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday the 9th. I am not particularly worried about it. It's a simple surgery and will only take about 30 minutes to an hour.
Unfortunately, it won't be removing any fat, so I won't be losing any weight.
This is not my first time trying this. This will be number 3. Yes, it is number 3. So, you might say, "what is different about this time?". Well, Since I last tried it, I gained 30lbs more. I am now almost 4 lbs lighter than my all time heaviest. It scares me and worries me about my future. With all the health issues I have battled over the years and the potential life threatening issues I could face, I needed to finally decided to live or die. The time is now and the time is right! It's time to start living. NO MORE EXCUSES!
SETTING GOALS
Setting goals is important. But goals can also get in the way. We set goals for ourselves and most often, we set them beyond what is realistic at the time. Short term goals are what can make the difference between success and failure. We don't need to step on the scale everyday. It will only lead to being discouraged because we are not seeing what we perserve as progress. I weigh myself once a week on the same day and time. This way, I know I will see progress. Even if that progress is small, it is progress nonetheless! Just one pound or one inch is a success. But don't measure your success by inches or pounds, but by each day you are closer to being a healthier you.
We need to take it one day at a time. Each day is a success and one day closer to becoming who I should be!
My Support
Everyone needs support when taking on such a tremendous task as losing weight. Family is always the best support system we have. And I have it. My wife has been the rock that keeps me grounded and no one can and has given me more support and encouragement through my many attempts at getting healthy.
But, I would be remiss if I did not mention one person who comes in a close second. JANE ANDERSON is not only my health coach, but a dear friend as well. Over the last four years, Jane has seen me go from a great high to a terrible low. She has been there to cheer me on and shake a finger now and then too. But through all the good times, bad times, weight loss and weight gain, she never gave up on me. Jane always supported me no matter how low I got and never made me feel like a failure. Failure was and never is an option with her.
Surround yourself with people who will support you through your entire journey, not just the good times.
I am a 46 year old american born with Swiss decendants. I am an opinionated person who doesn't beat around any bush and this prevents me from making a lot of friends, but with age comes wisdom and I am learning to reel it in a bit. I have been maried to the same woman for more than 20 years and we have two children who are grown and are outstanding adults.
My life has taken many twists and turns over the years, but it is time for me to take control and stop letting food control my fate.
You crack me up!
ReplyDeleteThe 9th, huh? Wow...now that was quick scheduling. I think you are going to feel so much better when its all over. Most people do!
I hope it goes well for you. I will send a prayer your way. Slip them an extra $50 and see if they take the bribe to get your fat too. LOL
